Coffee Machine - One cup a day cuts Alzheimer risk

Filed under: Coffee Machine Articles — administrator @ 3:16 pm

Coffee is often purported to have various health benefits which goes a long way to explaining why very few kitchens are seen without a coffee machine these days. According to the report in the Daily Mail, scientists have spotted a link between drinking one cup of coffee a day and a reduced risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Drinking coffee, whether it be fresh Illy coffee from a Gaggia coffee machine or grabbing a quick coffee from the local barista, has long been thought to have health benefits and, if the report in the Daily Mail is to be believed, another benefit may soon be added to the list.

Coffee Machine – Appliance of Science

According to theCoffee Machine – Health Drink report in the Daily Mail, scientists from the University of North Dakota have discovered that a daily dose of caffeine helps to protect the brain against the harmful effects of cholesterol; the most notable being dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Putting the coffee machine on at least once a day may have massive health benefits in that case and Professor Jonathan Geiger, one of the authors of the study, states to the Daily Mail, “Caffeine appears to block several of the disruptive-effects of cholesterol that make the blood-brain barrier leaky. High levels of cholesterol are a risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease, perhaps by compromising the protective nature of the blood-brain barrier. For the first time we have shown that chronic ingestion of caffeine protects the blood-brain barrier from cholesterol-induced leakage.”

With the health benefits of coffee being many and varied, some Italians, who are particularly well known for their fondness of the coffee machine, have gone so far as to claim that coffee should, in fact, be classified as a health drink. Speaking to the BBC, Italian dietician Chiara Trombetti, points to the wealth of scientific evidence that points to the health benefits of coffee such as the antioxidants it possesses that help clear arteries and she suggests that a coffee machine may indeed be a wise purchase.

Coffee Machines - Luck of the Irish

Filed under: Coffee Machine Articles — administrator @ 3:16 pm

Coffee machines are capable of creating all sorts of weird and wonderful concoctions to titillate the tastebuds but not many have found favour as frequently as Irish Coffee which is unique mix of coffee, whiskey and cream and which provides a taste sensation. Coffee machines in San Francisco and around the world have been working overtime since an American journalist travelling back from the Emerald Isle passed the recipe onto a barman at the Buena Vista Bar and the rest, as they say, is history.

Coffee Machines – Accidental Discovery

According to reports, Irish Coffee may well have been an accidental discovery. The man credited it with its creation, Joseph Sheridan, when working in a restaurant at Shannon International Airport in Ireland, decided to put whiskey into the coffee of some weary looking traveller’s coffees on what was a bitterly cold night in attempt to warm them up. Few could have predicted that the concoction would still be taking coffee machines by storm over half a century later. For those looking to give their coffee machines a treat by whipping up a batch of Irish Coffees, the instructions are as follows:

  • Use the coffee machine to brew up a batch of black coffee. Pour the black coffee into a sizeable mug.
  • Pour the desired amount of whiskey and at least one teaspoon of sugar into the coffee and stir until fully dissolved. The sugar is a vital component to facilitate the floating cream on top of the beverage.
  • Carefully pour thick cream over the top of the coffee. The cream should float atop the coffee without mixing. The beverage is drunk through the layer of cream.

The man who was credited with introducing Irish Coffee to the coffee machines across the Atlantic was a travel writer for the San Francisco Chronicle called Stanton Delaplane who took it back to California with him after a trip to Ireland. Coffee machines are becoming increasingly popular across the UK as homeowners look to spice up their beverages by indulging in some more unique coffee recipes.

Coffee Makers - Giving the Tastebuds a Treat

Filed under: Coffee Machine Articles — administrator @ 3:15 pm

To simply use bog-standard coffee beans in coffee makers and showing a distinct lack of imagination is increasingly becoming a thing of the past as a new breed of coffee drinkers are deciding to utilise their coffee makers to make beverages a good deal more adventurous than the run-of-the-mill cup of coffee. A report in the Independent newspaper highlights this new found affinity for unique coffee recipes and the sale of coffee makers is set for a boom amidst a new wave of delicious tasting and smelling beverages.

Coffee Makers – Satisfying a Sweet Tooth

One of the more unusual ways that coffee makers are being utilised is in the preparation of a range of delicious coffee based desserts. According to the report in the Independent, coffee makers are now not only charged with whipping up tasty drinks but also as part of the process of making mouth-watering puddings. Just some of the desserts that the Independent recommends to be made from coffee makers and spot of panache include:

  • Coffee Granitas – A surprisingly refreshing dessert that is sweet and chewy. Use coffee makers to whip up the coffee and dissolve just under 200g of caster sugar into the freshly brewed coffees and then freeze until it’s almost solid. After 3 to 4 hours, the mixture should be granular and textured and appear a little like a sorbet. Coffee Granitas are becoming one of the most popular desserts springing forth from coffee makers across the country.
  • Iced Coffee – Using coffee makers to make an ice cold drink may seem a little unusual but iced coffee is becoming ever more popular amongst coffee aficionados across the country. The combination of ice cream and coffee is proving too good to resist and coffee makers are going into overdrive to make this delicious drink which is ideal for long summer evenings.
